Gelco Fireplace Services Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

A Gelco diagnostic visit runs $149, which includes a camera inspection of the firebox, burner assembly, pilot system, and venting, and that fee is credited toward any repair we do.

How Gelco Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

Gelco built a reputation for straightforward, serviceable gas fireplaces, particularly in late-1990s and early-2000s renovations across Fairfield County. We see the same failure patterns repeat themselves in Greenwich homes, and most are repairable without replacing the entire unit.

  • Pilot assembly dropout on Gelco GDV and LDV series direct-vent units. The original pilot assemblies on these models use a thermopile that drifts weak over time. The symptom is a pilot that lights and stays lit for twenty minutes, then drops when the main burner cycles off. The fix is a thermopile and pilot hood replacement, which we stock on the truck in most cases, rather than a full pilot assembly swap the factory catalog pushes.
  • Burner tube rust-through on vented log sets. Gelco’s earlier vented burner pans were made from steel that doesn’t hold up well in Greenwich humidity cycles, especially in fireplaces that sit idle from May through October. We regularly find pinhole rust perforation along the burner tube seam. The flame looks uneven and lazy on one side. The fix is a replacement burner tube assembly; we use aftermarket stainless where the OEM steel part would simply rust again in five years.
  • Remote receiver failures on Gelco Deluxe and Heritage remote-ready models. The receiver boards in these units were sourced from a supplier that hasn’t existed since 2011. When the receiver dies the wall switch still works but the remote doesn’t. Gelco no longer stocks this part. We install a current-generation remote receiver kit that mounts in the same location and works with the original gas valve, which typically saves Greenwich owners $300 to $500 over a valve-and-controls replacement.
  • Glass gasket compression leaks on Gelco direct-vent fronts. The woven gasket around the glass frame on GDV-series units flattens over the first three to five years of use. A failed gasket lets room air pull into the firebox, which causes ghosting - that milky film that builds up on the inside of the glass. The fix is a new gasket and proper clamping tension. We replace it as a matter of course on any Gelco service call where the glass is already off.
  • Venting installation shortcuts from original Greenwich construction. More than a quarter of the Gelco direct-vent units we open up in Greenwich have vent runs that were never installed to the manufacturer’s venting table. Horizontal runs that are too long, elbows where the manual called for straight pipe, or termination caps too close to soffits. The symptom is chronic pilot dropout or a burner that runs for an hour and shuts down. We fix the venting to Gelco’s published specifications, which usually costs less than the repeated service calls the homeowner has already paid for.

Our Gelco Fireplace Services Process

Our Gelco Fireplace Services Process
  1. 1
Call us and we answer. You’ll talk to a live person at (516) 399-5497, not a voicemail. We’ll get the model number off your rating plate and tell you up front whether it’s a unit we service regularly in Greenwich.
  2. 2
Diagnostic visit with camera. The technician arrives in uniform, background-checked, and with your name on the schedule. We run the fireplace, then remove the front and camera the firebox, burner, pilot, controls, and as much of the vent run as we can access. You watch the screen as we go.
  3. 3
Written findings and written price. Before any work starts, you get a written scope with the exact parts needed, the exact price, and the warranty on the repair. No verbal estimate. No “we’ll see what we find.” Clause 1 of the Haven Standard: everything in writing before a tool is picked up.
  4. 4
Parts decision, made plainly. We’ll tell you when OEM Gelco parts are the right call, and we’ll tell you when an aftermarket part does the same job for less and lasts longer. We never replace a part you don’t need, and we’ll show you the failed part before it goes in the truck.
  5. 5
Repair, test, document. We complete the repair, run the fireplace through a full cycle including the remote if equipped, and take photo documentation of the finished work. You keep the photos as your service record.
  6. 6
365-Day Done Right Promise. Every Gelco repair is covered by our Done Right Promise for a full year. If something we fixed isn’t right, we come back and make it right. That’s stamped on your paperwork, not implied.

Why Greenwich Homeowners Call Level Two Chimney Greenwich for Gelco Work

Why Greenwich Homeowners Call Level Two Chimney Greenwich for Gelco Work

Corrine Halstead built our Greenwich operation around a simple rule: the camera doesn’t guess, neither do we. That’s why every Gelco visit includes a camera inspection with documented photos, and why the price is in writing before we start. We’re not affiliated with Gelco, and we’ll never pretend to be. We just know their fireplaces from opening up hundreds of them in this town.

When a repair calls for liner or venting materials beyond what Gelco’s parts stream covers, we work with DuraFlex and HeatShield products because we’ve seen them hold up in Greenwich flues. A written warranty comes with every job, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work for a full year. If you’re comparing quotes, bring us the other estimate and we’ll give you an honest second opinion, free.
